What can train travellers expect from TIF?

Greater security

  • CCTV in car parks, on platforms and in waiting rooms will make you feel safer.
  • Almost all of the stations on the Greater Manchester rail network will have CCTV, better information and signs. Surfaces will be repainted and shelters replaced.
  • If you need to change to a tram or bus, you’ll be able to do so more conveniently at one of the new or improved interchanges at: Ashton-under-Lyne, Altrincham, Bolton, Eccles, Stockport, Wigan and the city centre (Victoria, Piccadilly, Salford Crescent and Salford Central/Chapel Street and Oxford Road.

New park and ride

  • If you don’t live near a station, you’ll be able to leave your car at one of our new/improved park and ride sites and catch the train there. Overall we plan to double the capacity of park and ride facilities across Greater Manchester.
  • Park and ride facilities will be improved with larger car parks and better CCTV, at Stalybridge, Rochdale, Mills Hill, Horwich Parkway, Heald Green, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Romiley, and Birchwood.
  • There may well be changes with regard to any of the sites as the projects are taken forward. All sites are proposed but subject to the availability of land and planning approval.
